The changes here at LPR have
been implemented, things are still
a little slow, but we're getting
there. I didn't come here to talk
about that, though. I came to talk
about business.
What is business for us
natural&botanical perfumers is the
upcoming regulation that may
completely undermine our entire
art form ~ The Globalization Act
of 2008. Restrictive fees are our
main bitch here.
Two-thousand dollars annually
to register each place of
manufacture, plus a possible
additional fee for each and every
one of the items that are cataloged.
We're talking thousands and
thousands of dollars here folks, for
home-based, small businesses that
barely make enough to keep doing
what they do. It's an obvious means
of filling the FDA coffers and
nothing more.
They peddle this act under the
auspices of generating cash flow to
better protect the consumer ~ uh,
sure, guys. Since when have you
given a rat's ass about consumers?
All you have to do is look at the
FDA's beautiful track record of
ok'ing pharmaceuticals for sale to
the public that end up killing folks
left and right from some
'unforeseen' cause. The act is
bullshit and we all know it.
The only thing about this new
act that can and will hurt the n&bp
community are the fees. That's it.
None of us object to complete
labeling, registering our
businesses with the FDA (even with
a smaller-than-$2000, one-time
fee), complying with clean
manufacturing processes or any of
the other consumer protection
rules.
The fees are excessive and
abusive and will shut down
thousands of small business across
the country.
